Don't just stand by

Twenty years ago there was nothing here.  A small band of brothers used to come from Denison Mosque once a week to collect the people in someone’s basement for salah.  From then, till now, I have been a part of this community and have witnessed the inception, the growth and the development of what is now Darul Iman.

I have seen our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and children, sacrifice their time, effort and personal wealth to establish this house of Allah.

It pains me to see how we have strayed from our vision, and how what belongs to the community is being run like a private club, with a blatant disregard for laws, ethics and community involvement.  I kept hoping something would change, but the only thing that changes is the further degradation of our institute and collective values, and the continually increasing isolation of our masses whom this masjid belongs to.  Although it was bought and established as a masjid, it hardly resembles a mosque now.

I couldn’t sit idly by and let this continue, so when some concerned community members approached me I decided to hop on board and help with the tech and web side of things.

It’s time for a change.  It’s time to take a stand, and stand up for what’s right, speak out against what is wrong, fight against injustice and let this masjid be run for the people, by the people and of the people.  This is your masjid.  Time to make it yours.
